New Hampshire Union Leader Monday, May 21, 2007 Northeast is covered: From six terminals, trucking firm blankets the region. By KRISTEN SENZ Union Leader Correspondent HARTFORD, Vt. -Ross Express, a Boscawen, N.H.-based shipping company, recently completed construction of a docking terminal here and is on pace to reach $18 million in revenue this year. The 16-bay Vermont terminal provides access to the entire Green Mountain State and to parts of New York by ferry across Lake Champlain, giving the next-day shipping company full coverage of the Northeast. Ross Express owner Steve Brown said that when he bought the family-owned company in 1999, his vision was to expand coverage to all New England states, a goal that has now been realized. "We've completed the entire coverage area, so now were just going to focus on doing what we do best, and that's picking up and delivering the next day," Brown said. Ross Express focuses on general commodity business-to-business deliveries. And the company is dedicated to keeping its promise of next-day service. "If we pick up something at a business today,, we're going to drop it off tomorrow," Brown said.

On the demand side, trucking volume is expected to grow from 9.8 billion tons in 2004 to 13 billion tons in 2016, an increase of over 30%. At the same time, the industry is faced with an aging driver population, increased government involvement with Homeland Security regulations, higher licensing costs and new hours-of-service regulations, all of which impact the availability of drivers. In an effort to aid the supply side, Ross Express has supported the establishment of a new CDL driver training program at the New Hampshire Community Technical College in Laconia, NH by donating a single-axle tractor. With the addition of a trailer provided by MS Trailers, the program now has a complete tractor trailer unit for their use in conducting in-vehicle and on-the-road training.
